When he passes on the shoulder
That tractor trailer driver's pissed
We cut him off, he shakes his fist

We swerve and bump and brake and lurch
I stifle screams. My stomach hurts.
We pass the cops. I check his speed.
They don't give chase. We get a lead.

The engine races, tires squeal,
Horns are honking, no big deal.
I sit back and say it's cool
But riding with him's just, plain cruel.

I know that kid must learn to drive,
But will we get there both alive?
My job, to bolster confidence
But squirming here just makes no sense.

"Just drop me off next chance you get. "
I'll cab it there with no regret.
